The best laptops for 2011 have really not been a surprise to most folks in the industry; they have been a bit surprising to consumers though. There are roughly 12 major laptop brands on the market each producing several different models to attract consumers from different markets.

All but one of the manufacturers depends on the Microsoft windows Operating System. Frankly most of the best laptops for 2011 have similar capabilities. They all look pretty much the same and they all share like processors.

Apple's New Tablet - What Will iPad Cost and How Does it Work?

Apple has finally done it. Apple has released its new tablet device, that is. The Mac public was expecting, indeed clamoring -- for Apple to release such a device -- and soon! For Apple to have failed to do so would have been a major letdown (to its customers as well as its stockholders). The momentum was just impossible to resist.

After all, the iPhone is essentially a miniature tablet computer. Apple has shown that it can "do" such a device like no one else. So, despite Steve Jobs past protestations, releasing a new tablet was a no-brainer. All Apple had to do is scale up its brilliant interface to a larger device.

Tablet

Did I say "all Apple had to do?" The technical challenges in producing this new device, called the iPad, were enormous. Apple had to essentially design a whole new operating system that is not quite the Mac and not quite the iPhone, rewrite its core applications from scratch, and basically rethink the entire way a computer operates.

Apple's New Tablet - What Will iPad Cost and How Does it Work?

Apple was not the first to release a new tablet computer, just as it was not the first to release an MP3 player or cell phone, but it may well be the company that succeeds in making the tablet computer truly "catch fire" with the public.

Apple has a tremendous head start with 140,000+ apps for the iPhone, and it wisely designed the iPad to take advantage of them. The iPad can run iPhone apps at their original size, or in "pixel doubled mode" twice the size as on the iPhone, so that they nearly fill the iPad screen. Developers can easily rewrite their iPhone apps specifically for the iPad in such a way as to take advantage of its new features.

How will the iPad affect Internet marketers? Of course, the "i" in its name stands for Internet (and it's also a clever play on the name of the "iPod"). Surfing the web will be a joy, and a larger screen will give users much more room to work with. Apple's developers brag that it's like "holding the entire Internet in your hand," or like reading a physical book or magazine.

Creation of new apps for the iPad by developers could rival the gold rush that sprang up around the iPhone. Apple offers the SDK 3.2 beta for developers with the tools they need to start creating applications for the iPad, and an iPad simulator that lets them build and run applications on the Mac, lay out the user interface, test memory usage and debug.

Web graphic designers and artists will enjoy the included Brushes application on the iPad's larger screen, although some may feel that it is something like fingerpainting -- a stylus that works with the iPad will not be supported, at least not initially.

Apple has completely rewritten its productivity software iWork for the iPad. Keynote contains custom graph styles, custom-designed themes, animations and effects, and brand-new features designed just for the iPad. Pages includes Apple-designed templates and formatting tools. Numbers offers over 250 formulas, flexible tables and sophisticated charts.

Want to catch up on your marketing reading? Apple has worked hard to make reading e-books, magazines and newspapers pleasurable on the iPad. Apple's e-book reading software has an interface that looks like a bookshelf. Flip the bookshelf over with your finger, and you're brought to the online store where you can purchase new books.

The iPad's built-in Safari browser works just like the one on your Mac. And, like the version on your iPhone, you can scroll through pages by flicking your finger across them, or pinch or double tap to zoom in on a photo.

The Mail application offers a landscape view with a split screen showing both the current e-mail and the unread messages in your inbox. Want to view the current e-mail message by itself? Simply turn the iPad to portrait mode and the message zooms to fill the screen. The iPad will work with popular e-mail providers such as mobile me, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Hotmail and AOL. To compose a message, you just tap and start typing.

This brings us to the onscreen keyboard. Many pundits wondered how text entry would work on Apple's new tablet device. You can use an external keyboard for typing long documents if you wish. However, I think Apple made the right decision in not attempting to build a physical keyboard into the tablet. The goal of the iPad is to bring your data and web surfing up close for an intimate feel. A keypad would simply get between you and the screen.

The on-screen keyboard is much larger, of course, than what is possible on the iPhone. In landscape mode, the keyboard is almost as large as that on a standard laptop. With just a few tweaks to the word recognition and auto-correction features of the iPhone software, typing on this virtual keyboard, I suspect, could be almost as fast as using a real one. Plus, I believe that voice dictation apps could come quickly to the iPad, just as they have to the iPhone.

And, of course, the iPad includes all of the same features as the iPhone, only in a larger form--video, YouTube, the iPod and iTunes, interactive satellite maps, the notepad, a calendar completely redesigned from the ground up for the iPad, Contacts and Spotlight search.

The iPad will be shipped in three different internal storage configurations and with the option of Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + 3G, for a total of six different models. The base model, the 16 GB Wi-Fi only, will start at a reasonable 9, while the top of the line 64 GB Wi-Fi + 3G model will tip the scales at a still affordable 9. Apple has said that, while most new technologies are introduced at a higher price point and slowly work their way down, Apple wanted to do things differently.

When will the iPad be available? Apple expects the Wi-Fi models to ship in late March and the 3G models to ship in April.

The thinness, just 0.5 inches, the light weight, just 1.5 pounds, and the flexibility of this new device are sure to make the iPad popular with Internet marketers and anyone on the go. With its high resolution LED backlight, it's larger display, it's responsive multi-touch screen and its powerful Apple-designed processor, the new iPad will be thin and light enough to take anywhere. And I suspect that many people will choose to do exactly that.

1. Angry Birds

Tablet

The most popular and downloadable game in the history of Android is the Angry Birds. In this game, the birds are angry because green pigs have stolen their eggs. Thus, they seek revenge by destroying the hiding pigs through sling shots. 2. Honeycomb Ping Pong

Loved table tennis during high school? You would not need a physical platform to play this game now, because Ping Pong has already reached the screens of Android tablets. The Honeycomb Ping Pong is actually an improved version of the classic game played with two rackets and a ball bouncing in between. This game is available in four different modes, namely, single play, two players, Wi-Fi Play and lastly, Online Play.

In the Single Play mode, you play against your tablet. It comes with four difficulty levels, from easy to medium to hard and up to expert. The Two Players mode, on the other hand, allows you to play with a second human player on the same tablet. The third mode, the Wi-Fi Play, uses a Wi-Fi function to play against another tablet in your wireless zone. The last mode, the Online Play, allows you to play against other players around the world if you can't find someone to play within your wireless zone. This game is downloadable in the App Market for only .99.

3. Backbreaker THD

Want to join the football team but just can't pass the try-outs? Well, worry no more because no one can stop you from playing this game right in your own tablet. The Backbreaker THD is a game developed by NaturalMotion, allowing you to enjoy a virtual nerve-wrecking and bone-crunching football game. Credit is given to the game's incredible animation, tantalizing HD visuals, and eye-catching simulation technology. This tablet game costs a little blow in your pockets though. You need to shed off .99 to download it but definitely, it's worth the price.

4. Need for Speed: Shift

Your favorite Android racing game is finally available in your tablet. Check out your gears well because the game's enhanced screen space makes your turning and swerving a definite joy. This game, developed by Electronic Arts, is also available in other gaming platforms.

The X Construction Lite is a simple yet fun and addictive game moving up in the gaming ladder today. In its first week of release, it garnered 250,000 downloads. No wonder this game is considered as one of the best.

There are still more tablet games available in the Android App Market and it's just a click or tap away to discover if they can measure up to the prowess of the games above. What is best for others may not be best for you,but the list above is tried and tested by the majority. You don't have to conform but before having second thoughts, try the games first. You might just be surprised.

Top 10 Salon & Spa Promotions and Marketing Ideas

1. Networking and Connecting to gain the Leading Edge.

Getting out and making a name for yourself is important. It's not enough to place a sign out front and run an advertisement in the paper and wait for the phone to ring. You are more likely to get business from people who have made contact with you or know you. Participate in your community and join groups where you can network with people in your suburb or town, you'll be able to make connections, get the word out about your salon and spa and bring in some new clients. Get out, meet people and increase your business visibility.

Promotions

2. Stealth Marketing

Top 10 Salon & Spa Promotions and Marketing Ideas

Use Viral Marketing to build your brand awareness and enhance your marketing efforts. By using pre-existing social networks like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter you can get the word out and create buzz for your salon and spa. Stealth marketing can encompass social networks, text messages, blogs and blog posting all with the purpose of gaining visibility and increasing your marketing objectives.

3. Email Marketing

As a day Spa, Beauty or Hair Salon owner your client list is a precious asset. Consider the lifetime value of a client. How much does each of your clients spend on average per month, per year and over a lifetime? It costs anywhere from 5 to 8 times more to gain a new client as opposed to retaining your clients. Therefore, you need to place a strong emphasis on keeping existing clients. Keeping in touch with your clients to stay top of mind is important to gain repeat business. Email Marketing is a highly effective way to build and maintain relationships.

4. Praise from Happy clients

The marketing giants use celebrity endorsements (testimonials) to expose their products and give their products credibility and appeal. You too can get testimonials from your happy clients. Identify people who can influence your target market and get them to endorse your treatments and techniques. Get key leaders within your community to try your products and treatments for free and get their feedback in writing. Get their permission to use their feedback, comments and photos in your promotional material.Endorsements can come from friends, the most powerful endorsement is when friends and clients recommend your product or service to another friend. This is powerful word of mouth advertising and more believable than any other form of endorsement.

5. The Power of Free!

We all like getting a little bonus, a gift, a little something extra. Your clients do, too. The acronym "GWP" stands for "Gift with Purchase". As the name suggests, a GWP is an item that is given to your client when she spends above a specified amount on beauty treatments, hairdressing or skin care products. The Gift with purchase (free item) could be anything from cosmetics, skin care products, hair care products, salon voucher, product samples, etc. Free offers for example Buy 10, Get One free, Buy a Facial and Pedicure and Get a Free Manicure adds transactional value and enhances allure. Free introductory offers entice clients to trial a product.  Free offers help with the buying decision and increase sales.

6. Referral Programs

Getting clients through referrals is one of the best ways to build your business. Have a referral incentive program in place to encourage clients to refer business to you. Having a specific referral program gets people thinking about who they can refer to you. A referral program encourages word of mouth advertising. Make it a habit to ask your clients for referrals. Tell them you would really appreciate it if they could recommend you to anyone who would be interested in a cut/colour/any service you provide." And of course tell them about your referral incentive program - let them know what's in for them.

7. Effective Words that Sell

Copywritingis the use of words to promote your salon and spa. You know the saying, "It's not what you say, but how you say it. You can tell clients we cut hair, do facial and waxing. Or you can start defining your product or service in a whole new light. Literally turn the spot light on what you say.

Before: We sell xyz products

After: The Best Clinically Proven Anti-ageing Formulation for Fine Lines and Wrinkles.

Before: We do Facials

After: Our Facials will Rejuvenate your Skin, Leaving it Looking Radiantly Healthy and Feeling Absolutely Fabulous.

Every word in every single message, advert and presentation forms a perception, either good or bad. Choose your words wisely. Too many salon and spa owners study what the competition is doing and do and say the same. Make you words count, make them unique, succinct, persuasive, enticing, juicy and delicious.

8. A Niche Strategy to Focus your Marketing efforts

Don't try to be everything to everyone. Focus on your specific niche. Know what makes you different from your competitors. Analyse your competitor's strengths and weaknesses. Offer more value by differentiating your specific treatments and results. One of the biggest niche strategy advantages is the ability to quickly become a dominant player your specific area of expertise. There are salons that cater specifically for rejuvenation, slimming, tanning, hair design, waxing and massage. Niche marketing can be a focused strategy at a niche group such as pregnant women, teenagers, couples, men. A massage and relaxation niche may encompass Yoga, Shiatsu, Meditation and an array of Massage techniques such as deep tissue, Swedish, aromatherapy and Thai massage. Spas are increasingly offering unique services and products to differentiate themselves from the usual facials and body treatments. A new spa niche may be carved out with Asian healing practices and rituals.

9. Win them over and Build relationships

Treat each client like they are special. Listen sincerely to their concerns. Communicate with your clients, what are their interests, likes, dislikes. Educate your clients on the many benefits of your service and products. Have promotional tools such as educational Pamphlet/Flyer/Email/Booklet/Blog/eBook which includes interesting and useful information. Make sure your clients are pampered, comfortable and give them your full attention. Recognise that you serve clients, that client relationship is part of your job. Be helpful, friendly and courteous at all times.

10. Bold & Beautiful Business.

Who gets the attention? Attractive men and women, the loud mouth and the exceptional offer. Start attracting attention to your salon and spa. Have attractive staff with flawless skin, well groomed with full make-up. You think I'm joking, but its fact that good looking people attract more business. And as a salon and spa, you are in the health and beauty business, so your people need to look the part. Would you go to an overweight personal fitness trainer, or would you want the lean muscular trainer? Who gets the attention? The budget salon with posters on the wall or the salon with a gorgeous reception, water feature, glossy magazines, top notch furnishing and finishes. We know that packaging is everything; clients pay big money for professional skin care because the marketing messages tell us its special and the packaging supports the message. Is your salon and spa supporting your marketing message? Attractive people, places and objects are attractive because they literally attract attention and interest. Is your salon and spa attractive and attracting attention? Attractive refers to everything: your marketing messages, the way you answer the phone, answer questions, the way you present yourself, your advertising. It all needs to be bold, beautiful, attractive, and appealing to draw people in.

Best Tablet for 2012

The Motorola XOOM is a powerful tablet that offers nearly all the traditional features of a desktop PC, but it's in a 10.1 inch tablet that's just half an inch thick. I have the pleasure of supporting 3 of them at work right now. So far this would be my choice for Best Tablet 2012.

Who makes it: Motorola

Tablet

Price Range: 0-0 for wi-fi only version. 3G and 4G XOOM's can run as much as 0 depending on if you sign up for a 2 year data contract from a cellular provider. This review is on the Wi-Fi only version of the Motorola XOOM (which is all I've worked with so far).

Best Tablet for 2012

Who's it for: This a hardcore tablet. It's got a lot of power and features. It's perfectly suited for home and corporate users who want the desktop experience right in the palm of their hand, however if you're just trying to browse the internet and read some ebooks there are more affordable tablets out there.

Motorola XOOM Hardware Features

The XOOM isn't playing around when it comes to hardware. It's beefy. Motorola popped in a dual core 1 ghz nVidia Tegra 2 processor, 1 GB of DDR2 Ram, 32 GB's of internal storage and a 10 hour battery (and that's 10 hours of actually using the tablet)! That's a lot of power for a tablet.

Motorola didn't skimp on wireless connectivity either. The XOOM comes with 802.11 N Wi-Fi and it also supports A, B and G signal types as well. Blue-tooth is also included so you'll be able to use accessories like headsets or even connect it to your hands-free blue-tooth system in your car (which is great for those turn by turn directions played via your car speakers).

The XOOM allows you to setup 5 "home screens". Each of these home screens can contain different applications and widgets. While this isn't a big deal in the corporate environment it does make sharing the XOOM at home with other people much easier. Speaking of widgets...you can add dozens of widgets on each home screen. These widgets are scrollable (for example you can scroll through emails on the email widget), stackable and now re-sizable!

Unlike the iPad, the XOOM completely supports Adobe Flash (v. 10.2), so you won't be limited to viewing just half of the sites on the Internet. You should know that flash content uses the battery almost twice as fast. So your 10 hours if internet browsing becomes 5 if you're on flash rich websites.

Multi-touch gestures are there too, for example, you can use 2 fingers to pinch zoom in and expand (zoom out) any website, picture or movie.

Email: You can add as many corporate or personal email accounts as you want. Our XOOM users here at work have Microsoft Exchange and gmail accounts configured on their XOOMs. So far it works perfectly.

XOOM is Multi-tasker. You can download music, files, watch a video or play a game all at the same time, there's no need to wait for something to finish. Tabbed web browsing is also available in the XOOM. It's just like your desktop.

The Android Market gives you access to hundreds of thousands of Apps, Games, Books and more. Some are free and some cost anywhere from - (usually). Now, with the new Android 3.2 release for the XOOM you can also rent movies directly from the Android Market (and these are new movies, as soon as they are released to DVD). Google apps and technologies are found throughout the XOOM (and they work flawlessly with the exception of Google Earth at this time). You can video and voice chat using Google talk (over a Wi-Fi connection) or pull up a 3D Google map and get spoken turn-by-turn directions if you're out walking or in your car.

Florida Timeshare Promotions - Timeshare Tours in Florida

One of the ways that you can save a little money on your next vacation to Florida is to take part in some of the Florida timeshare promotions. Because there are so many timeshares in Florida, timeshare promotions are quite common and not just in Orlando. You can go on timeshare tours in Florida in just about any part of the state.

While Orlando is certainly one of the most popular areas, you'll also find timeshares near Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, the Gold Coast, and along the Gulf coast of Florida. So whether you prefer the theme park attractions, Atlantic ocean beaches or the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, there are plenty of vacation deals in Florida and the sales folks there are all eager to have you attend their timeshare tours.

Promotions

Now for Orlando, I think it is pretty safe to say that you can really just wait until you arrive to schedule some resort tours. You'll be practically tripping over the promotional opportunities anywhere near Walt Disney World, particularly along Highway 192 through Kissimmee. Any place that you see offering discounts for theme park tickets is likely promoting a timeshare. Just don't take the first offer. Spend a little time bargaining and they will usually increase the value of the enticements to tour a resort.

Florida Timeshare Promotions - Timeshare Tours in Florida

But for the rest of Florida, if you're looking for a timeshare promotion to help save some dollars on your vacation, then the first place to start your search will be the internet. Wyndham is one of the largest companies in the timeshare industry, so you'll probably want to start with them. There are many websites that offer discounted accommodations at Wyndham owned properties and generally one of the requirements is that you attend a presentation as well. Play your cards right though and you should be able to entice a few more offers out of them for your time.

Other Florida timeshare promotions might include discount theme park tickets, discounted hotel or resort accommodation, dining certificates, tickets to entertainment events like shows or concerts, or even shopping gift cards. So once you know what part of Florida you are planning to visit, do a quick search for timeshares for that specific location to see what kind of deals you can get before you book your airfare or accommodation. You could easily save hundreds of dollars just for a few hours of your time attending a timeshare tour in Florida.

Florida Timeshare Promotions - Timeshare Tours in Florida

Of course, another way to save on your next trip to Florida is to look for timeshares for sale before you even get there, so you can spend your vacation in your own resort home. As Wyndham Timeshares are widely available for resale, you'll be able to find a great resort in your favorite part of Florida for a bargain price.

Emma Martin currently owns timeshares with DVC and Royal Holiday Club and always makes vacationing a top priority.

Tablet PC Games

Tablet PC games include crossword puzzles, Microsoft Sudoku, and many war games that are more advanced in nature. News reports indicate that Microsoft is in the process of designing a Tablet PC game software development kit (SDK) and a new Tablet-PC-specific game, both meant to draw new developers and customers towards buying Tablet PCs. Another game that is being developed by Microsoft is the "Arc of fire."

The M4 release concentrated on Tablet PC-specific improvement, game-play development and incessant refactoring to develop performance. "Arcs of Fire" now runs in portrait and landscape modes, and re-sizes itself based on screen rotation. It also responds to system-wide power events, and can be held in suspended animation until the user restarts it. Gesture support has been added to AoF and the circle gesture to toggle sound, the square gesture to maximize or restore the game, and the star gesture to exit the game. Slate labyrinth is another tablet PC game that has a maze of roads, which are to be crossed.

Tablet

Another popular tablet PC game is the Metroid, which does not have very good reviews on the Internet. Users of Metroid have complained about its awkward controls. There are many other puzzle games available on tablet PC's that can be downloaded from the Internet free of cost or as a shareware.

Tablet PC Games

Any game that can be played on a normal computer can also be played on a tablet PC by properly downloading it or on a burn-and-share basis. Many companies also offer free games along with their software. Some of the software companies in the gaming industry are Valve Software, Id Software, Micropose and Lionhead studios. These are makers of some famous games such as Half Life, Doom, and Quake. The web sites of these companies offer these PC games for free or as shareware.

Nook Color and Kindle Fire - Two eReader-Tablet Hybrids Compared

Nook Color from Barnes and Noble has been one of the most original and affordable devices for electronic reading as well as performing other multimedia tasks until now. However, this fall Amazon introduced their Kindle Fire and the world of budget Android eReader/tablet hybrids has become much more interesting. Now it's two full-colored touchscreen devices that straddle the line between eReader and tablet. In this article I will try to compare these two competitors.

Design
Nook Color and Kindle Fire both feature simple design with a good holdability factor. They look pretty much the same, but Nook has its unique loop at the bottom-right corner. On the other hand, Kindle is a little bit smaller (7.5 x 4.7 x 0.45 inches compared to Nook's 8.1 x 5 x 0.5 inches) and lighter (14.6 vs. 5.8 ounces).

Tablet

Screen
Both gadgets can boast of high quality 7-inch LCD touchscreens with the resolution of 1024×600 at 169 dpi and 16 million colors. They both look great in either portrait or landscape orientation

Nook Color and Kindle Fire - Two eReader-Tablet Hybrids Compared

Speed
Though the CPU is not such an important factor for tablet PCs and e-readers, still the Kindle features a newer dual-core processor which is likely to perform faster than that of Nook. When reading or listening to mp3s you will probably not notice any difference.

Operating System
Kindle Fire and Nook Color run Android but have their own proprietary versions of software and user interface. It makes it easier for average non-techie users to use these devices. However, advanced users might want to root them in order to turn them in a full Android tablet and sideload applications instead of buying them. In this respect Nook seems to be a winner as it features a microSD slot with which you can run the hack and remove it to return to the original configuration.

E-book reading
Both devices are very good for reading in full color almost under any conditions: in the sunlight and in total darkness. The screen adjusts its brightness accordingly to make the process the most comfortable. Fire and Color support popular text/e-book formats and with their 8GB of internal memory can store thousands of ebooks and text files.

Multimedia
It's fair to say that Kindle is more of a multimedia tablet than Nook, as it supports more video and audio formats. Apart from Kindle books (including audio enhanced), this device can play music from the Cloud Drive as well as Video on Demand. It's also possible to stream video rentals or free offerings which are available for Amazon Prime members.

Summing it up
The main features of the two devices are nearly the same: 7-inch touchscreens, customized Android OS, 8GB of internal memory, similar size and weight, similar battery life (about 8 hours), same connectivity (Wi-Fi), same price (Fire is slightly cheaper). However, Nook Color features more original design and due to microSD slot it is more expandable/rootable.

Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot

Portable Wi-Fi hotspot is actually a fairly new technology. Yet, more and more people are already realizing how convenient and beneficial these are.

When discussing about this, usually, the first places to come to mind are our home, office, coffee shops or malls which have wireless network connection. This is because those are the more traditional places where it can be found. Now, you can already have an access beyond those places mentioned. This is through the portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

Tablet

Before you get all too excited about buying this device, it may be best to assess first if you really need it. You would not want to waste money on something that you will not really use, right? Well, for other people, the main reason why they find it difficult to decide whether they should buy or not is because they are not too familiar with the basic benefits of the product.

Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot

Here are some of the advantages of having a portable Wi-Fi.

First of all, having your own portable Wi-Fi will keep you secured. If you connect to the free connections available in public hotspots, you will be more prone to being hacked or maybe other people who want to disseminate malicious materials can get to your computer.

Second, you may have a faster internet connection since there will be less computers or gadgets connected to your Wi-Fi. Logically, when more people are connected to the same network, the sending and receiving of information is slower too.

Third, if you have several gadgets that are Wi-Fi enabled, having your portable hotspot can be really convenient. Most likely, you have already been in a situation when you were badly wishing you had a network connection but there are no hotspots around. This will eradicate those situations for you.

Lastly, if you are worried about the expenses, well, it will all be just a matter of finding the plan that you can afford and will work well for your needs.

Getting a portable Wi-Fi hotspot is not such a bad idea especially if you are the type of person who has the need to be connected to the internet frequently.

How to Sell Your Product to Costco - 11 Crucial Steps!

Making the decision to do business with one of the countries most successful retailers is not one of those quick brainstorm ideas hatched over coffee and a bagel at your local Starbucks.  I am sure you have lain awake at night dreaming of your product prominently displayed at Costco with thousands of members clamoring around to grab a hold of the last item before they are all gone.  No doubt you have rehearsed your response to the frantic phone call from Costco begging for more product, offering anything to just get one more shipment.  Cool and unbothered you pause before letting them know you will see what you can do, while at the same time, asking for better terms.

Fortunately this has happened and could happen to you.  You may never find yourself invited over to Jim Sinegal's house for holiday dinner, but that doesn't mean you will never be successful selling your products to Costco if you are prepared.

Thousands of companies just like yours have made it into Costco and sold their products successfully for years.  What makes the difference between companies that are in and the ones that are out?  The successful companies had the following in common:

How to Sell Your Product to Costco - 11 Crucial Steps!

They were prepared:  They did their homework and had a plan.  They knew what they were getting themselves into and had already made the necessary adjustments for success. They hired a company or individual who had expertise in selling Costco to fill in the gaps in their plan and advise them during the process. They understood Costco's business model and that Costco would not bend their rules even for them. They were in the right place, at the right time with the right item.
Will your product be the next big item at Costco?  Only time and preparation will tell.  To get you started I have outlined the first 11 steps which are crucial to preparing for a meeting with Costco.

Product selection:  Determine if a single product or multiple products will be offered.  At times, in order to create the value needed to meeting Costco's standards you may have to bundle products together.  Bundling products can also help with your distribution network as you have created a different and unique item number. Pricing:  Research your distribution network to determine the lowest sell prices in the market on the products you would like to offer Costco.  Ensure you have a handle on all prices and products being offered for sale.  If you don't you can be sure Costco will.  They will do their research which means you need to as well.  Create a possible pricing structure taking into account prices currently being offered. Distribution affect:  Determine how selling product to Costco at reduced pricing or added value will affect your current distribution network.  Distributors and dealers can sometimes become difficult if they believe you are undercutting them by offering the same products to Costco. Packaging:  Determine what type of packaging you will be offering to Costco.  Costco is very specific on their packaging requirements.  Generally the require a single display pallet.  Get quotes from a couple of different companies on the graphics and packaging. Logistics:  Take a look at your current logistics capacity to determine if you are able to service a large client like Costco.  Knowing your capacity will help you understand what your sell through expectations will be.  Analyze Costco's routing guide to ensure you are including all required aspects when looking at logistics.  Click here for Costco's routing guide Other costs:  Review and take into account these additional costs.  1.  Customer service support:  Do you have the phone support required to handle the influx of customers or will you have to hire a company to handle this aspect?  2.  EDI Costco (Electronic data interchange):  Price out EDI to include in your financials.  3.  Promotional costs:  Will you want to participate in any promotions?  The various promotions at Costco are where the sales really explode and should be planned for accordingly.   4.  Shipping:  Costco will require a delivered cost to their depots.  You must cost average this out and include it in your cost structure.  5.  Returns and defects:  How will you manage the return and defect portion.  This can get expensive and should be carefully evaluated. Potential sell through quantities:  Based on what divisions of Costco you are going after create some scenarios that show potential quantity sales.  Costco has 3 divisions in the US and an International division: a. Costco wholesale, b. Costco.com, c. Costco Road Show, d. Costco Canada, e. Costco.com Canada, f. Costco Mexico,  g. Costco UK, h. Costco Taiwan, i. Costco Japan, j. Costco Korea. PNL:  Create a item PNL using the above information to determine program viability.  You never want to do this after the deal has been made.  Entering into a program and finding out after you are having success that you are losing money will be devastating.  Costco:  Decide which division you should contact first.  Make initial contact with the buyer and gage interest.  You will probably need help here as getting through to Costco buyers can be very difficult if not impossible.  If enough interest exists set an initial meeting at Costco HQ in Seattle WA. Pre-Meeting:  Final decision on at least two, no more than three packaging options.  Nail down your options as you will only have approximately 30 minutes or less to pitch your idea to Costco and you want to have time left to discuss next steps.  Make your final decision on cost pricing to include in the presentation.  Create your presentation and print out more copies than you think you will need.  Confirm your meeting one week prior to the date. Meeting:  In your presentation be thorough, but not over the top.  Keep your pitch smart and to the point.  Be prepared for Costco to have some questions, not just about your product, but about you and your company as well.  Know your competition and your market.  They will test you.  Make sure you nail down next steps and follow up before you leave the meeting.

Proven Ways to Increase Restaurant Sales

The continuous mission for every restaurant owner, even successful ones, is to increase restaurant sales. With so many dining establishments vying for a customers business, effective marketing measures are key ingredients for attracting customer attention, establishing your restaurants identity and enhancing customer loyalty.

Word of mouth is the most cost efficient way to increase restaurant sales. If you present a wonderful dining experience, patrons will naturally refer your restaurant to others. But word of mouth works both ways. Bad reviews often travel faster than positive ones. Thats why its essential to be consistent in providing excellent customer service, quality food and an inviting atmosphere.

While chain restaurants rely on a corporate formula to increase restaurant sales, independent restaurateurs can be more flexible, giving them a greater advantage. One important strategy is getting to know your customers. Theres a reason why clubs, theater groups, business people, or friends who get together weekly only dine at one particular restaurant. Its because the owner greeets them by name, knows their dining preferences and is aware of things going on in their lives. These restaurants have created a trusting, family environment that builds customer retention.

Proven Ways to Increase Restaurant Sales

Without a doubt, rewarding repeat customers can lead to increased profits. If you know a customer has referred others to your restaurant or consistently brings in a group of business associates, consider giving a gift certificate for a complimentary dinner or providing a free appetizer or bottle of wine for the table. This is a great sales tactic to motivate your good customers to bring in business to your restaurant.

Your staff is an integral part of building sales. Besides providing impeccable customer service, your staff can increase restaurant sales by up-selling to increase the table check. Rather than ask if anyone would like a drink, appetizer or dessert, they should note which ones are house specialties or offer their personal recommendations. They should also promote higher priced dishes with reasons showcasing their value.

A comprehensive advertising and marketing plan is essential in growing and maintaining a profitable restaurant business. Your advertising needs to set your restaurant apart from others and pique a persons interest to try it. Your marketing efforts should be both in-house with promotions and in the community. Have a presence at community events within your service area, network with business and trade groups, or get involved with a charity that is of interest to you. The more visibility you can give your restaurant, the greater your market reach.

Using the Internet to increase profitability is a must. Your restaurants website should be as interactive as possible, allowing people to make reservations, see current specials and easily get directions. Have a presence on social media sites, like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Incentives take on many forms, but all have shown to increase restaurant sales. Some examples of common incentives are discounts, coupons, punch cards, customer loyalty programs, business card drawings, promotions and special events. You might want to try a combination of incentives to enhance business.

Laptop Buying Guide - Which Laptop Should I Buy?

You may have spent a fortune on that brand new laptop. But technology is evolving at a fast pace, and your laptop will invariably feel old in a couple of years. It is, therefore, imperative that you buy a model you will be comfortable with for as long as you want to keep it.

Basic Laptops
Before buying a notebook make a realistic assessment of your requirements. Are you a compulsive gamer? Do you tend to watch lots of HD video on your computer? Most users have pretty limited needs that extend only to web surfing and word processing. Any laptop available in the market can meet these requirements. So there is no need to spend thousands of dollars on a high end machine. Besides cost, the other factors that need to be considered are portability and usability.

16GB Price

Do you travel a lot? Mobile professionals need a thin and light machine they can carry around. Netbooks are a good choice for them. These machines are incredibly popular now. They are ultraportable with 9 or 10 inch screens. Another reason behind the popularity of netbooks is their price. These are cheap computers. But buying a netbook isn't a very bright idea if the machine is intended to be your primary computer. Compared to mainstream laptops, netbooks have much less powerful hardware. And the small screen size may strain your eyes if you use it for extended periods.

Laptop Buying Guide - Which Laptop Should I Buy?

Upgrading
Upgrading a laptop isn't totally impossible, but it isn't very easy either. All laptops have some parts that cannot be replaced at all because they are soldered to the motherboard. Chief among the components that can't usually be replaced are CPU and Graphics cards. There are of course some parts that can be replaced and they include hard drive and RAM.

Laptop Components
Laptop components are mini versions of their desktop counterparts. They are pricier than desktop components, but they aren't necessarily more powerful. In fact, laptops tend to be less powerful than desktops. This is because laptop components usually run at slower speeds so as to reduce heat build-up inside the chassis.

Processor/CPU
The processor/CPU inside a computer has the greatest impact on system speeds. Intel and AMD are currently the leading CPU manufacturers. There are other chip-makers too, but they usually cater to the lower-end of the spectrum. Intel processors deliver slightly better performance than AMD processors, but they are also pricier than their AMD counterparts.

Graphics Card/GPU
The graphics card/GPU is an integral part of a gaming laptop. If you are not an avid gamer, then you don't have to buy a laptop with a discrete GPU. But remember that having a GPU will be helpful while running photo and video editing applications and playing HD video. If you tend to play a lot of games, you should buy a laptop with a discrete ATI or NVIDIA graphics. Intel processors usually come with an integrated graphics solution such as the GMA950 or 4500MHD, but these are practically useless for playing graphics rich modern games.

RAM (Memory)
RAM stands for Random Access Memory. Having sufficient RAM is extremely essential for getting good performance from your laptop. For instance, you will not be able to run multiple applications simultaneously if you do not have enough RAM. So how much RAM is necessary? Well, it depends upon your exact needs. Most netbooks come with 1GB of RAM. Higher-end models will usually have 3GB or 4GB of RAM. Laptops with 8GB and 16GB of RAM are also available at the moment. 1GB of RAM is usually sufficient if you are an average user.

Storage
How much storage space you need depends upon how you use the computer. If you only store spreadsheets and your office documents, you will not need much space. But if you use your laptop to store movies, music and photos you will need to buy a model with a large hard drive. Basic laptops usually come with 80GB or 160GB hard drives. Pricier models with 500GB or 640GB of hard drives are also available.
